How we work

Editorial Principles

The standards that shape every article published on Masiyo.

Masiyo is an independent editorial project. Nobody pays us to write about their products. Nobody asks us to soften a criticism or highlight a brand. This page explains what that independence means in practice, and what you can expect from every piece of content we publish.

Independence from commercial interests

Masiyo does not sell products, accept advertising, run affiliate programmes, or receive payment from producers in exchange for coverage. When we describe a Polish brand's refillable packaging, it is because we researched it independently. Our coverage decisions are based on reader relevance, not business relationships.

If a product or service is mentioned, it is because it is genuinely useful to someone navigating urban waste management in Poland. Positive coverage is not for sale. Neither is criticism withheld.

Polish context as the baseline

We write for people who live in Polish cities and deal with Polish systems. That means the five-colour bin system, the PSZOK network, the Ustawa o odpadach, and the specific product ranges available at Biedronka and Lidl. We do not adapt international content for a Polish audience. We start from Poland and work outward.

When municipal rules differ between cities, we note it. When Warsaw's collection schedule differs from Wrocław's, we say so. Local specificity is not optional for us.

How we research

Our primary sources are municipal waste management plans, official gmina websites, producer documentation, and Polish regulatory texts. We do not rely on secondary summaries when primary sources are available. When we describe what a PSZOK accepts, we check the official list for that specific location, not a generic national description.

We cross-reference claims. If a producer says their packaging is refillable, we check how the refill system actually works before writing about it. Reader time is worth that effort.

Updates and corrections

Polish waste regulations change. Municipal schedules are revised. Producers enter and exit the refillable packaging market. We treat our content as living documents, not published-and-forgotten articles. Each guide carries a last-reviewed date.

When we are notified of an error, we investigate and correct it promptly. Corrections are noted within the article with a brief explanation of what changed and when. Transparency about mistakes is part of the editorial standard, not an exception to it.

Tone and accessibility

We write for people who are trying to do the right thing but find the system confusing. That includes people who have never composted, people who moved to a new city and do not know their local PSZOK, and people who want to reduce waste but do not know where to begin at Lidl.

Technical terms are explained. Regulations are paraphrased into plain language, with references to the original source for anyone who wants to read further. We do not assume prior knowledge, but we also do not write down to our readers.

What Masiyo does not do

We do not give legal advice. Information about Polish waste regulations is provided for general understanding only. For specific compliance questions, readers should consult their gmina or a qualified professional. We do not make health claims about composting or any materials. We do not recommend specific products as superior to alternatives.

We inform. Decisions are yours.
